The great thing about parties hosted by middle-aged people is that you dont have to worry about anything. You dont have to bring your own grog, food or present. Everything is provided for. Which is why last weekend's birthday party of a fellow karaoke nut was the best I've had this year. I wasn't really interested at first because I thought its gonna be one boring night & also my auntie treated me to buffet lunch at the casino for getting a good refund for her tax. My friend sms'd me a few times so my conscience took the better of me & I decided to go. She organised for a mini-bus to pick us up but there were a few last minute back-outs so rather than paying $100 for a chartered bus to pick up only 2 people, she asked for us to take the cab & will reimburse our fare. Now thats what I call the 'full monty' hehe. Anyway, we got there. Drinks were overflowing, the antipastos were good & my friend's Aussie partner was a great host. I dont know if I was going to feel out of place coz all the guests were like 50-60 yearolds (my friend actually was celebrating her 48th bday) whom I've all met at karaoke. But I tried my best to assimilate. Good thing there was one topic that was the central point of discussion the whole night: karaoke. These people were talking about how karaoke is not much fun as it used to because of all the bickerings especially during competitions, and how some young louts try to ruin a great night with their choice of songs. I dont know which side im gonna take coz while I somewhat agree, I also find these so called louts to be the 'life of the party' so to speak. If not for them, there wouldnt be any babes to impress hehe. But back to the party, this is the first party I've been to where 7 types of steaks were served but the best part of the night was the karaoke singing. Youve heard of the saying 'do not go to battle without your arms'. All friggin guests were armed with their karaoke cds. I brought a couple but only because I was asked to, not because I wanted to ;). Ironic that for my party that my mom should be attending I was the one who got knackered & had an early mark but i absolutely had a ball. I now know not to underestimate an 'oldies' party.
