The latest installment of Australian Idol is getting into that stage where men (and women) are separated from the boys (and girls). We've seen 3 people get the boot with one more joining them tonight. This year's batch, in my opinion has far better singers but there is no clear cut favorite even at this stage. Not because everyone are on par singing-wise as they all have different styles. What seems to be missing is the 'personality/charisma' factor. It might still be early but we've all seen how Fantasia & Guy Sebastian starting to smoke the hell out of everyone with 6-7 more weeks to go. Good for the audience because there is this unpredictability which keeps them guessing who would take the first step towards Idoldom or which one will buckle down first. But the judges are slowly showing their frustration because they expect someone to be setting the tone already. Courtney, Casey & Ricki-Lee after strong performances in the earlier rounds, were suddenly chastised because they were 'just consistent', and as we all know, 'consistency' is not enough. In the words of Cowell, 'you always have to raise the bar'. Too bad the Pinoy entry didn't make the final 12, otherwise it would've probably been aired in the Philippines. American Idol has become a phenomenon there with sub-standard singers & without being biased, the Pinay plus the 3 who got booted out would've eaten the likes of Jasmine Trias, Camille Velasco & George Huff alive. Oz Idol would've been accepted the same way, if not better coz of the quality. Anyway here's the lowdown on the Oz Idol contestants ranked according to how i predict them to finish:

1. Courtney Murphy - he gets my vote firstly because he is unique, cool & most of all, has the same cherubic charisma as me hehe. He's every fat guy's hero. If he becomes Idol, the repercussions could be rewarding for chubby, decent-singing karaoke blokes ;). Best performance: 'She Will Be Loved - Maroon 5'

2. Ricki-Lee Coulter - the only eye candy remaining with Amali Ward getting the flick last week. Not your average 'diva' which is a breath of fresh air coz frankly, I'm sick of belters. Best performance: 'Proud Mary - Tina Turner'

3. Casey Donovan - another 'horizontally-challenged' singer which seems to be the Idol image nowadays what with the success Ruben Studdard, Michelle McManus & Diana DeGarmo even though she got beaten. More of a 'rocker' than a 'diva' but she can hit those ranges when necessary. Best performance: 'Symphony Of Life - Tina Arena'

4. Anthony Callea - probably the best singer in the field but too one-dimensional for me. Best performance: 'The Reason - Hoobastank'

5. Daniel Belle - a Grobanesque singer which could be disastrous come R&B night. Best performance: 'Rock DJ - Robbie Williams'

6. Marty Worrall - I became an instant fan after he out-Trained Train with 'Drops Of Jupiter'. Alas its all downhill after that. He might go tonight but I want him to stay a bit further because his song choices, although bagged by the judges, have been good as far as my music taste is concerned. Best performance: u guessed it.

7. Hayley Jensen - a Jennifer Hudson type of singer. Some nights she rocks, some nights she's just too plain. Loved her rendition of 'If I Cant Have You' on last night's disco theme. Best performance: 'Weir - Killing Heidi'

8. Chanel Cole - a bit gothic (and weird) for me but always manages a good performace even with the limited range. Best performance: 'Glory Box - Portishead'

9. Emelia Rusciano - for someone who never had professional training, she did very well to land into the top 10 but often shows too much emotion which is why a lot of people including me hope she goes tonight. Best performance: 'If I Aint Got You - Alicia Keys'
