Wednesday, August 27, 2003 i'm taking a couple of weeks off (could be extended to 4). see youse whenever. posted by uging | 8:56 PM Monday, August 25, 2003 Got this from nin: I, the Penis, hereby request a raise in salary for the following reasons: 1. I do physical labor. 2. I work at great depths. 3. I plunge head first into everything I do. 4. I do not get weekends or public holidays off. 5. I work in a damp environment. 6. I don't get paid overtime. 7. I work in a dark workplace that has poor ventilation. 8. I work in high temperatures, and my work exposes me to contagious diseases. Dear Penis, After assessing your request, and considering the arguments you have raised, the administration rejects your request for the following reasons: 1. You cannot work 8 hours straight. 2. You fall asleep on the job after brief work periods. 3. You do not always follow the orders of the management team. 4. You do not stay in your designated area and are often seen visiting other locations. 5. You do not take initiative -- you need to be pressured and stimulated in order to start working. 6. You leave the workplace rather messy at the end of your shift.. 7. You don't always observe necessary safety regulations, such as wearing the correct protective clothing. 8. You will retire well before you are 65. 9. You are unable to work double shifts. 10. You sometimes leave your designated work before you have completed the assigned task. 11. And if that were not enough, you have been seen constantly entering and exiting the workplace carrying two suspicious looking bags. Sincerely, The Management ---------------------------------------------------- hehehe. lafftrip at 9 in the morning. posted by uging | 4:19 PM Sunday, August 24, 2003 Rod & Lea's wedding was one of the most organised I've been into. Save for the rain (which some say is a blessing), everything went smoothly. Church ceremonies started on time and because of that, we were distractingly late. The only thing I hate about weddings in Oz is the 2 hour gap between the actual wedding & the reception so we had to kill off those 2 hours by driving to the nearest coffee shop. I was gonna invite those people over my place which is just 5 minutes drive but I remembered, we're out of coffee, sugar & cream (plus toilet paper, laundry soap & dishwashing powder). We never buy these stuff coz Mike nicks boxes of them from IBM's supply room. So there, 2 hours spent over latte, cappucinos, Heineken, meat pie & a bowl of wedges. And these people were still whinging; they're hungry, they didn't have lunch etc. Finally, went to the reception; dinner drinks already being served; bruschettas, chicken tandooris, spinach filo pastries, spring rolls, cheese platters, this is where I fill myself up coz the main course is usually rubbish. 7pm & we were ushered in to our respective tables. Trays of mixed seafood, cheese & other antipasto entrees were waiting. I was stuffed even before the 3 course meal arrived. Then the speeches. For the first time, I can just sit back & relax, enjoy my grog, grub & the speeches because I didn't have to make it. Ryan (Rod's brother) made a very moving one. He eloquently narrated the days when we spend 3 straight nights, one night lasting until 5am playing pusoy dos & with a measly 15 cents won & lost amongst us; how we would bug everyone in the middle of the night with the ruckus we create whenever we feel like having bacon, sausages & eggs at 2am; and how I would tell Rod to get off the computer coz its my turn to chat. I was actually egged on by the emcee to follow it up but I passed. Then the usual cake cutting, bouquet tossing etc. The night ended with some singing & dancing. Night finished early at 10:30. posted by uging | 7:13 PM Wednesday, August 20, 2003 LONDON (SI.com) -- Italian defenders and Dutch strikers dominate the third annual edition of the World Sport XI, a ranking of the best players in the world at their respective positions during the 2002-03 season, as determined through voting at CNN's World Sport show and SI.com. Serie A's reputation as the home of the world's best defenders is validated by the selection of AC Milan duo Alessandro Nesta and Paolo Maldini in front of Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon. Meanwhile, the double Dutch forward line pairs Manchester United's Ruud van Nistelrooy with Roy Makaay, now at Bayern Munich after impressing last season with Deportivo Coruna. Real Madrid's French playmaker Zinedine Zidane is the only player to appear on the list for the third year in a row while Brazilian club teammate Roberto Carlos retains his place at fullback from the 2002 list. Nesta and Sammi Hyypia, a Liverpool and Finland defender, both return to the World Sport XI after missing out last year. Gianluigi Buffon displaces Oliver Kahn as the world's best goalkeeper after winning the Italian title with Juventus and helping the Turin side reach the final of the Champions League. The 25-year-old appeared in 32 of 34 league matches, conceding a league-low 29 goals. In the Champions League, Buffon kept four clean sheets in 15 matches. Italy's first-choice keeper since last year's World Cup, Buffon has played in all five of the Azzurri's Euro 2004 qualifiers so far, keeping three clean sheets. Roberto Carlos' repeat selection follows another dynamic season at Real Madrid, where the Brazilian has patrolled the left side since 1996. The 30-year-old played in 37 of 38 league matches as Real claimed the Spanish title, logging more minutes on the pitch than any teammate other than goalkeeper Iker Casillas. In the Champions League, Roberto Carlos missed just one match in 16 as Real advanced to the semifinals. Paolo Maldini brings even more experience to the right side of the World Sport XI defense, making his first appearance at 35 after captaining AC Milan to its sixth European Cup and the Italian Cup. Maldini, who will celebrate his 20th year at Milan in 2004, was part of a defense that conceded just 15 goals in 19 Champions League games, beating Juventus on penalties after a goalless final. It was Maldini's fourth success in Europe's premier club competition. In Serie A, Maldini played in 29 of 34 matches as Milan finished third. Maldini is joined in defense by Milan teammate Alessandro Nesta. The 27-year-old quickly settled in the Rossoneri defense after joining from Lazio at the start of the season. Nesta missed just three matches en route to Milan's Champions League success and converted one of the penalties to beat Juve in the final. Nesta also played in 29 league matches and all five of Italy's Euro 2004 qualifiers. Sammi Hyypia rounds out the defensive quartet, returning after previously being selected to the 2001 list. The 29-year-old led Liverpool to victory in the League Cup final against Manchester United in an otherwise disappointing season for the English side. Hyypia played in 36 of 38 league games and scored three goals as Gerard Houllier's side finished fifth in the Premier League. Liverpool also lost in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup to Celtic, but Hyypia remained a fearsome defensive presence throughout the season. For Finland, he also scored two headed goals in six appearances in Euro 2004 qualifying. The midfield has a truly cosmopolitan feel with four leagues represented. Resuming playmaker duties for the third year in a row, Zinedine Zidane continues to pull the strings for Real Madrid and France. At 31, Zidane's powers remain as potent as ever, as demonstrated in a number of match-winning performances for Real in Champions League and La Liga. Zidane played in 33 of 38 matches as Real claimed its 29th Spanish title, scoring nine goals and creating countless more. In the Champions League, Zidane dazzled in Real's quarterfinal win over Manchester United, only to suffer semifinal defeat against his former club Juve in the semifinals. Zidane remains the key figure in France's European Championship defense, scoring three goals in five qualifying appearances as Les Bleus plot a path toward next year's finals in Portugal. Pavel Nedved, who replaced Zidane at Juve and orchestrated the Turin giant's Champions League win over Real, is rewarded for his efforts with a place in midfield. The Czech playmaker, one of the world's most complete players, steered Juve to its 27th Italian title with his tireless and spirited play, scoring nine goals in 29 appearances. In the Champions League, Nedved scored one goal and created another in Juve's 3-1 win over Real in Turin. But a clumsy tackle on Steve McManaman resulted in his second yellow card of the competition, and Nedved sat out Juve's defeat in the final. Robert Pires' spectacular return from a cruciate ligament tear earns Arsenal's Frenchman a place on the left of midfield. Arsene Wenger's side may have surrendered its Premier League title to Manchester United but the stylish 29-year-old, who makes everything look easy, at least gave Gunners fans plenty to cheer, scoring 14 goals in 26 league matches and scoring the only goal of the game as Arsenal beat Southampton 1-0 to lift the FA Cup. Andres D'Alessandro, the youngest player on the list and the only player from South America's leagues to merit inclusion, makes up the midfield quartet. The 22-year-old playmaking wizard scored six goals in leading River Plate to Argentina's Clausura title before swapping Buenos Aires for Bundesliga club Wolfsburg, which paid a club record US$10.2 million for his services. Wearing the No. 10 shirt, D'Alessandro can inevitably expect comparisons with Diego Maradona, while a handful of friendly appearances for Argentina suggest he can shortly expect to play a key role for the national side. Roy Makaay's Golden Boot-winning season for Deportivo Coruna has already earned the Dutchman a US$21.2 million move to German champion Bayern Munich. After four quiet seasons in Spain, the 28-year-old couldn't stop scoring, finding the net 29 times in the league for third-place Deportivo. In the Champions League Makaay scored nine times in 11 appearances, including four in two matches against Bayern. Makaay's international strike partner Ruud van Nistelrooy rounds out the World Sport XI following a stunning season for English champion Manchester United. Scoring records tumbled as the 27-year-old, a rare and enviable combination of strength and finesse, found the net 44 times in all competitions. Ruud Van Nistelrooy topped the Premier League scoring charts with 25 goals as United won the title. His 12 goals in 14 Champions League matches was a record for a single season in the competition, while Van Nistelrooy became United's all-time leading scorer in November after just a year and a half at the club. For the Netherlands, Van Nistelrooy has scored twice in four Euro 2004 qualifiers so far. Roberto Carlos is the only one of four World Cup-winning Brazilians in last year's selection to keep his place. Despite being the highest-profile players to change clubs over the summer, neither David Beckham (Manchester United to Real Madrid) or Ronaldinho (Paris Saint Germain to Barcelona) get a look in. By nationality, Italy has the biggest representation this year with three players, ahead of France and the Netherlands with two players apiece. Italy's Serie A also has four selections, while Spain's Liga and England's Premier League both have three. AC Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid have two representatives each. posted by uging | 5:31 PM Tuesday, August 19, 2003 Fuck this! Working with a rello could be a bummer sometimes. See, Burns & Smithers went off to Queensland while Jude is still on holidays so its just me & the rello here. Monday, after doing 2 minutes of work & 6.99 hours of chatting, surfing & texting (i didn't mind coz i do that too hehe), she asked if she can leave early. I said no coz Burnsie might ring as he always does & look for her. She stayed but not without the mumblings & grumblings & the parinigs. Following day, without notice or anything she came 1.5 hrs late, immediately worked the phone without even logging on first, went out to have a smoko & finally after she noticed that I was actually 'working' my butt out, felt a little guilt & did some work. Now the bitch didn't even turn up. Apparently 'shes not feeling well'. Bullshit. Its 8 degrees & getting out of bed is as much struggle as taking a dump while constipated (too gross? hehe). But who am I anyway? She said she's sick. Fine. But this time I'm not gonna fuckin cover up for her anymore. Yeah she may be my cousin in law but she obviously doesn't give a hoot 'bout her job & most especially my cred (i got her this job) so stuff it. Anyway, I also noticed that the people who got me into blogging have moved on to better things. Good on 'em. posted by uging | 5:00 PM Sunday, August 17, 2003 Australian Idol has been on for 3 weeks now & after seeing all the competitors & those *gasp* ruthless judges, I've decided not to go on with my earlier pronouncements that I'm going to be a part of it (yeah as if i'd muster enuff guts). Out of 10,000+ wannabe Avrils & Justins, 40 went through. Those 40 were a mix breed of nationalities; Indian, Malaysian, Indonesian, Kiwi, Ecuadorian, Ghanaian, Italian & of course, what singing competition would be complete without a Filo. These 40 will eventually be trimmed down to 10 & that Filo got booted last week. She did a nice job on 'I Wanna Know What Love Is' but one of the judges thought it was too Tina Arena-ish. For anyone to win this competition, not only do they have to sing well but develop their own style like this dude who scatted his way through. Hope he makes the final 10. Another karaoke contest 100 levels down but with a level of intensity matching its TV counterpart, will be on this Saturday, and ehem I'm in it. My competition song will have to depend on my drunkenness level hehe. A 0.05 would probably be not enough to sing a Collective Soul or Bryan Adams but when in doubt, Lionel Richie (or Jewel if ur female) always does the job. posted by uging | 7:02 PM Tuesday, August 12, 2003 SUCCESS!! posted by uging | 8:39 PM PATRICK RAFTER IS COMING OVER!!!! eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! lol. whatever business he has with us i don't know but hopefully we can get some photos. i'll post it here if we get lucky. posted by uging | 4:45 PM Sunday, August 10, 2003 Happy birthday Pinky! I'll ring you later. posted by uging | 8:05 PM Peter O'Toole, Gregory Peck, Bob Hope, now Gregory Hines. While Hines is not exactly in the same tier as the other 3, he was a legend in his own right. One of the greatest tap dancers of his generation, he's also one of few who has successfully made the transition from stage to movies & tv. I remember seeing his films during the 80s not because I was a fan but because of the excellent OSTs. One of them was 'White Nights'. I used to listen to Casey Kasem's 'American Top 40' and the good thing about it is not only you get to keep track of the latest pop hits (and boy did I keep track; I have a note of all the weekly top 40 songs from 1985 to 1990. I stopped when I migrated to Australia), but you also get to know the latest lowdown in music, movies, tv and other stuff. And when Lionel Richie's 'Say You Say Me' hit the top 40, it was then that I learned that it was from that Gregory Hines-Mikhail Baryshnikov flick. Then another #1 hit, Phil Collins` & Marilyn Martin's 'Separate Lives' came out from the same movie. That was when I decided to check the movie out & surprisingly I enjoyed it. Another Hines movie that I saw coz of the soundtrack was 'Running Scared' with Billy Crystal. It also had a couple of cool tracks; 'Sweet Freedom' by Michael McDonald & 'Man Sized Love' by Klymaxx. The last Hines flick that I saw was 'Renaissance Man' with Danny De Vito & Mark Wahlberg. Vale Gregory Hines. posted by uging | 8:01 PM |
