Oh yeah. Kill Bill.

The year's best flick so far (with due respect to 'Matchstick Men'). The only dilemma this movie is facing is that no matter what, it will always be compared with Tarantino's other 2 masterpieces, Reservoir Dogs & Pulp Fiction (Jackie Brown was a disaster hence QT's 4-yr spell), and I must say, while it's not fair since we've only seen half of the work, it doesn't have the same wit. Then again, Tarantino made this movie to pay homage to martial arts & since when did one need brain to appreciate an action flick (unless you consider ‘The Matrix’ as a martial arts movie)?

Which leads me to Noel Vera, Pinoyexchange’s self-proclaimed movie critic. He dismissed the movie as a so-so even to the point of comparing it to Intolerable Cruelty. Man, they’re 2 different genres. Matter of fact save for this dorkhead, I have yet to read one bad review about the movie. People watch movies to get entertained, not to think unless of course you’re paid to locate flaws. There were some inconsistencies, yes but who cares. All I wanted to see is the gore & mayhem typical of any martial arts flick. And yes, Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, Julia Dreyfus, Vivica Fox & Chiaka Kuriyama (hoo boy she’s hot) rocked! Daryl Hannah looked like Melanie Griffith though. Kill Bill is Reservoir Dogs in frock.

Kill Bill Vol.1 = two thumbs up.

NBA season kicks off again next week & with all the wheelings & dealings during the offseason, this promises to be a heck of a year. But first things first: what the fart is Mark Cuban thinking? I mean Toine Walker? The guy who hoists 3s like my sister eating Pringles (once you start you can't stop :D)? How would he fit in with a lineup that includes Dirk, Fin, Nash and another trigger happy dude in Jamison? Nelly will have his hands full fer sure. Then again, as what many people are thinking, the trade makes sense coz Walker has an attractive trade value. Forget about the 30-40 shots a game. This guy is versatile. He'll be a handy acquisition to other teams who need scorers (Detroit? Denver?). Dallas on the other hand is still searching for any center not named Shawn Bradley. Ergo, Toine (or maybe 'Tawn) could be shipped for a Zach Randolph + Ruben Patterson or Marcus Fizer + Jalen Rose or (fingers crossed) Shaq?

Three things I am looking forward to this forthcoming NBA season:

1. How the new & improved (?) Dallas will fare against the Spurs & the Fakers
2. How the Fakers will do with Kobe in deep shit
3. How LeBron James will prove that the $90M deal with Nike is worth it

After a month stay, my sisters flew back to Manila this morning. Its been fun even though we missed Gold Coast & Melbourne. One month is just too short. At least I got to visit some of the places that I haven't seen, Taronga Zoo for instance which I must admit was quite a bore. Sydney Aquarium was alright. And I must've gained 100lbs on top of my 9423052403 kg frame with all those 'i wanna try the Balmain Bugs, and the meat pie, and the eat-all-you can at the Casino' rants. Hoo boy, it was an eye opener. I've always dismissed Mediterranean food as stinky but after trying out that basmati rice & smoked oyster, I am definitely coming back.

The movie I've been anticipating & hyping on for 2 years, Kill Bill Vol 1 premiered last night with no less than Mr Brown (close to Mr Shit) himself Quentin Tarantino & my ex-crush Daryl Hannah in tow. Finally I'll get to see it tonight.

Off to Taronga Zoo tomorrow. Considered one of the best in the world & one of Sydney's main attraction, I haven't seen the bloody place, and I've been living in Australia for 13 years. Then again, I've lived in the Philippines half of my life & I don't even know where Manila Zoo is. I'm basically a sheltered kid, not that I'm deprived or anything but I chose to bore myself at home watching 'Superfriends' rather than go zooing. I'm not keen on animals or pets anyway.

So FEU kicked Ateneo's butt. Good onya Morayta boys. It's been awhile since a team outside the conio schools (well UST is not conio but it has a good rep here in Oz) has won the UAAP title. Last time FEU won, their own version of Shaq & Kobe (Abarrientos & Pablo) were simply overpowering for the likes of a Marlou Aquino-EJ Feihl-Giovanni Pineda-pwoered Adamson or a Bong Ravena-led UE Warriors. I used to hate FEU simply because they were our 'crosstown' rivals (me being a Thomasian) but I have fond memories. That school, inspite of its 'jolog' tag is just teeming with babes, most of them probinsyanas. Actually, the Morayta/Recto/Legarda area, is more than just 2nd-hand books, pickpockets & anti-Marcos (hehe showing my age?) rallies....err, I won't go any further lest I get accused of being a chauvinist

But yeah, I'm glad that FEU won the UAAP. Not that I'm anti-Ateneo or I give a toss about UAAP but its a victory for the 'jologs' for which I am a very proud member :D
