Thursday, July 31, 2003 I don't normally talk about love, relationships, romance, emotions & all that Joe d' Mango bullcrap (sex pwede pa) but let me just share something & your input will be greatly appreciated. (/me plays Rex Smith's 'Simply Jessie') A friend of ours (i'll call him Bhong) met this girl (call her Jheng) last November. Sparks flew & one 'A Whole New World' later, they fell in love. They dated, made love, everything normal lovers would do. One month later, Jheng told Bhong that she's going to the Philippines for a 2-week vacation. OK lang sana but the news broke out 2 hours before her flight. Naturally, shocking Asia ang byuti ni Bhong coz she never told him about it. So ayun, lipad ang bruha. Bhong was so forlorn that he vowed to follow her kahit na 2 weeks lang daw mawawala. We told him to wait rather than spend heaps of money traveling. He heeded our advice (which turned out to be much worse, financially for him coz he spent like $3K ata sa fone calls). Then one night he came over our place spewing. Apparently, the girl won't be coming back soon. He got so pissed that he caught the first flight to Manila. So nagkita ang dalawa, yada yada.....turned out that the girl had a boyfriend in the Philippines. Langya, tinu-two time pala si Bhong. They broke up; Bhong (being a good looker & has this homey demeanor) immediately found someone for rebound, yada yada. He came back, moved on, found another girl (whom I shall call Nhetsky) & everything became rosy again. Then 2 weeks ago, Jheng all of a sudden turned up. Nag explain kay Bhong na mahal pa raw nya yada yada. To make things Avrilly (complicated hehe), Nhetsky had to go back to the Philippines din pala coz of immigration matters kuno. Ang gagong Bhong, nakikipagkita sa ex behind his current's back. Tapos kami pa ang dinadahilan. Last Friday night nagkabukingan. Nhetsky was asking if we saw Bhong coz accdg to him, he'll pick us up, then go to karaoke. E di syempre wala kaming alam. The poor girl went berserk, nagiiyak sa karaoke. So they talked, Bhong apologised to everyone (but he's still a dickhead). Now he's ranting in Pinoyexchange bugging everyone to advise him what to do. Nalilito daw sya kasi pareho nyang mahal yung dalawa. I told him to get a grip of his life, he's still young to be stressing out the way he's doing now. Forget about Nhetsky. Forget about Jheng. Ayusin nya muna sarili nya. And don't be freakin using us as an excuse whatever fabrications he's goin to make, or he can forget about hanging out with us. posted by uging | 6:52 PM Tuesday, July 29, 2003 ok, i think gerger's had enough publicity already. from today, my 'personality of the week' will focus on men & women i admire & i'll start off with one of the greatest minds this generation has seen; my Architectural Design 1 prof, Frank Lloyd Wright. posted by uging | 10:27 PM Let's see; we get 3% rise & Mr Brown-nose Smithers gets a fuckin car. Thank you very much Burnsy. I am so grateful. And I am so out of here. posted by uging | 6:47 PM Thursday, July 24, 2003 i think klink has finally gone klink posted by uging | 4:23 PM Monday, July 21, 2003 What do Tiger Woods, Michael Schumacher, Valentino Rossi, Serena Williams, Lance Armstong, the Los Angeles Fakers, Real Madrid, Brisbane Lions & the Australian Women's Netball team have in common? Yep, these are all names of dominant athletes/teams who have not been dominating this year. I'm not complaining, in fact I'm quite happy to see these athletes/teams lose once in a while. Tiger Woods has been laying eggs so far this year. Schumacher may be leading the pack but only 7 pts clear of Raikonnen. Rossi has been inconsistent. Serena has only won 2 of 3 grand slams this year :D. Armstrong, although he'll still win the damn race is only 15 seconds ahead. The Fakers, well, who cares. Real Madrid lost to Juventus inspite having the best striker & best midfielder in the world. The Lions, who are expected to win their 4th straight AFL crown struggling to even land in the top 4. And the Australian Women's Netball team. What can I say? They've been netball champions since 'We Are The World' became the #1 song in the Billboard charts. Hell, the Australian Cricket Team, touted as the most dominant sporting team, never stayed as champs that long. The Kiwis finally ended their reign last Sunday. posted by uging | 9:30 PM Haay salamat. With the final eviction happening last night, 'Big Brother' season 3 has finally ended. You see, this BB brouhaha had been such a hit that Channel 10 have alloted it 21% of its daily airtime. Consequently, my usual 7-8pm dose of 'Seinfeld' & 'Everybody Loves Raymond' had to make way just so people can see a half-naked 330-pound woman who incidentally became the last evictee, a couple of whinging & whining faggots & some other ordinary-looking bunch of individuals (except for Claire who unfortunately got booted out early) doing slimy stuff in front of millions. The 1.5-hour finale of BB forced other TV programs out of its usual timeslot so to make room they've inserted 'Jamies Kitchen'. This originally came out late last year. I've heard so much of Jamie Oliver & what he's accomplished & I've become sort of a fan. Now I've blogged about cooking shows being total crap and all that but this one is different because its not really a cooking show but some reality TV thing. Here, Jamie has given himself 9 months to take a 15 unemployed 16- to 24-year-olds (from a pool of hundreds), with virtually no previous experience of cooking, and transform them into top-class chefs. At the same time he is setting up a new restaurant in a derelict East London suburb, eventually to be staffed by his trainees. The selection process was hilarious. One even vomitted coz he got to sample one of Jamie Oliver's recipe & he didn't know it was oyster, a food he loathed. I can already see myself doing this sort of thing (not the vomitting but managing or working in top-level kitchens) in the near future. posted by uging | 8:45 PM Sunday, July 20, 2003 'Mission Impossible', 'Shaft, 'Charlies Angels'. We all know that these are 70s classic which have been revived & became huge box office successes. In a couple of months (at least here in Oz), we will be seeing another one making a comeback. 'S.W.A.T' is one of those oldies that I remember very well because whenever its on, there's some sort of a mini-party goin on in our household. Old male neighbors plus one uncle who lived just a few doors away doing some male bonding with my dad over that freakin show, a case of beer, Growers peanuts & corned beef (or sometimes sardinas depending on Mum's mood). In the trailer, Colin Farrell & the gang hummed the old SWAT theme, the very same theme I hated when I was a kid coz that was a cue to go downstairs, mingle with the old folks & become a commercial-break entertainment for them. Can't help it. My ability to name each & every capital cities of the world at that age amused them a lot =) Going back to those comebacks, I've read that 'Dallas' & 'Wonder Woman' are the next ones to have a movie version. 'Dance Fever' is also back on telly. posted by uging | 6:57 PM Thursday, July 17, 2003 Rhythm & Jazz Network of Australia has finally folded up. My mate Geoff Royce became the latest casualty of music piracy. I am not surprised & I feel a little bit guilty coz I was an AG user as well. Before all these AG, Napster & Kazaa thing, the only way I'd be able to listen to the likes of Kilauea, Walter Beasley & the Ripps is to buy their actual CD. There are no smooth jazz radio stations here. When you say jazz, you'll get Ella Fitz, Duke Ellington, Count Basie & all that crap that I couldn't give a flying fig about (which is a mortal sin if you claim to be a jazz lover). And for 10 years, R&J Network has always provided me with the latest & the best in smooth jazz. Now that they've gone extinct, I have to scour for other sources although there's not gonna be that many since R&J Network is just about the only major one who does this stuff. Maybe I'll annoy my sister again to get her ass up at Tower Records & ship the CD here which is gonna be costly. Any way but online shopping coz I couldn't be bothered. Never done it & never will. posted by uging | 7:22 PM Tuesday, July 15, 2003 The news about that JI maniac bolting out of his prison cell has put the Philippines in bad light once again. While Ponchu is writing about Filo pride, I am deeply embarassed & for once ashamed. And this happened right in the middle of counter-terrorism talks between our wanker of a PM & Ate Guy, este GMA. The prison guards were sacked alright but I would like to see more heads roll (sana nga literally eh). Whether they are in cahoots with whoever is responsible or not, one thing is for sure, these top brasses are sleeping on their job. I know the term 'resign' is foreign to them so GMA should not even think twice of giving them the boot. posted by uging | 5:04 PM Thursday, July 10, 2003 My little brush-ins with grumpy old bitches INCIDENT 1 My aunt went to Europe so I was minding her place for a while. Around 7am someone was banging on the door. It was this old lady who also happened to be the building manager. Apparently, the car park area is going to be sprayed with whatever so all cars must be moved. I told her that my aunt's away & she didn't leave the car keys so there's no way for me to move it. The bitch then freaked out & ORDERED me to do something about it. I apologised & told her that since I can't do anything, just leave the car there. What harm could a little spray do anyway, unless they're spraying the area with paint. Besides if the car gets damaged, that's my aunt's problem. But the bitch was relentless whinging like there's no tomorrow. Sensing that I wasn't even budging, she said 'ok, this is going to be discussed in next month's board meeting'. Hello, like I give a shit. Talk to my aunt hehe. INCIDENT 2 Went home pretty late on a Saturday, around 12am. I was famished so decided to whip up something. There was marinated 'tapa' in the fridge. Chucked it in the fryer while re-heating some rice & veggies in the microwave. After 5 minutes, another knock on the door: [old lady] 'Excuse me but are you cooking something?' [me] 'Yes' [old lady] 'It stinks'. 'Why are you cooking dinner this late'? [me] 'Sorry. I just got home & I haven't eaten dinner yet' [old lady] 'Can't you prepare something else? I can't stand all that stink' [me] 'I realize that, that's why I had the exhaust on & the windows shut' [old lady] 'Well I can still smell it' [me] 'Hey lady what do you want me to do, starve?' [old lady] 'Next time try eating some decent stuff. Your food stinks' [me holding my temper] 'Will do that ma'am. Now will you please leave me alone, my dinner's gettin burnt' INCIDENT 3 I know talking in Filo in public places can be a bit rude but this is a free country. People cringe & sometimes mock you when they hear you talking Asian, but this doesn't hold true when you speak in Italian, Greek or French. For me its ok to speak in your native language as long as you don't mean to offend someone who can't understand the language. The problem with Filos though, especially with oldies like my aunt is they can never control the pitch of their voices. Like what happened when I was on the bus with my aunt. I tried conversing in English but my aunt kept on talking Filo like she's in Divisoria or somethin. Not surprisingly an old lady butted in & berated us. I was apologetic but my aunt went ballistic: 'why don't u mind your own business'. The lady said 'excuse me but this is Australia, if you can't speak English go back to your country'. Now that was uncalled for so I got pissed: 'hey, if this is Australia, then you should speak Aboriginal bitch'. That shut her up & I heard some people at the back giggle. I know I was a bit out of control there but I hate it when people gets racial with this sort of thing. posted by uging | 6:24 PM Wednesday, July 09, 2003 Yey, we've finally moved. My whole body is still sore after all that heavy lifting last night. At least the hard part is over. There's nothing worse than moving out coz of all the nuisances; from packing up, to chucking all the unwanted stuff, figuring out how to move the fridge & washing machine from where it was sitting to the utility van then unloading it & putting it in its new place; re-arranging all your stuff & finally cleaning the old place. Haven't done the last bit yet coz we want to spend a whole day for that. If you're renting, you must see to it that the old place is spotless, otherwise those greedy agents will find a way not to return your 4-week bond or even rip you off with extra charges (a $50 carpet cleaning could be jacked up to $300 if you let them do it). The new place is cool enough, freshly-laid carpet, 2 bathrooms, veranda, built-in closets in each room, washer & dryer provided, spacious laundry room & garage plus state-of-the-art lighting. I might have some problems though when I play music or even watch DVD. The acoustics is so good that the volume control I normally set at 5 levels below max will blow the place away. I can already see those snotty bitches upstairs banging my door telling me to keep it down or they'll call the police. I might need to buy some headphones now. Bad news though; no karaoke playing. Unless I sing like Charlotte Church hehe. posted by uging | 9:42 PM Tuesday, July 08, 2003 With Beckham's move to Liga you'd think Real Madrid is now the 'team of the century'. What about those bloody Fakers? Gary Payton verbally agreed to play for them while Karl Malone is also basically a done deal. Of course they still have the Kobe Bryant sexual assault issue to deal with. If Kobe is guilty, he should go to jail, otherwise, bling bling #4 for the Big Aristotle. Unless: a) San Antonio lands both Kidd & either Jermaine O'Neal or Elton Brand plus a second tier free agent like Zo, Juwan Howard, Gilbert Arenas, PJ Brown or Michael Olowakandi b) Dallas does the same as San Antonio c) egos clash of catastrophic proportions d) Shaq's arthritic big toe sidelines him for one year e) Phil Jackson quits. Finally moving out tonight. I hope our neighbours are not as 'bruhas' as the old ones. Otherwise, they can all kiss my ass hehe. posted by uging | 6:41 PM Sunday, July 06, 2003 fakkk. bossing wanted me to re-tabulate some old Excel file which involves pivot tables. watdahel is a pivot table? i mean the last time i did this crap was like 100 yrs ago.
