Wednesday, April 30, 2003 ack. i must've jinxed myself. ever since i posted that 'top 10 reasons why lakers won't repeat', the lakers have won twice. my beloved mavs in turn lost 2 in a row. hehe palitan ko na nga. i love gangster movies so that's gonna be my top 10 for the next few days. posted by uging | 9:03 PM Tuesday, April 29, 2003 HEHE! First time to play basketball since what, 2 years? It was a very embarassing experience for me coz 5 of our girl mates (3 of them lesbos) were with us & they took the game very seriously. I was jostling up for the rebound & one of them outjumped me (anyone can outjump me). I lost my balance trying to outposition her & before I knew it, I was sprawling on the floor. Potah kahiya hehe. Anyway, I don't want to sound sexist but I just couldn't bang (not 'that' sort of bang) with them kahit na sila mismo eh binalya at siniko ako. As usual, only the first game was taken seriously coz after that, most of us oldies were huffing & puffing to death & nobody wants to run up & down the court anymore kaya nagkawalaan ng gana. After freshening up, we headed to Balmoral Beach. Some of them took a dip, some of them drank beer. I made myself busy with the pizza & softdrinks. Next agenda daw: soccer. HEHE cant wait for that. hey what happened to my Imelda Papin pic? grrr posted by uging | 5:49 PM Sunday, April 27, 2003 Went house hunting over the weekend. Mum & sis are coming here in a couple of months so I have to look for a much bigger shack. Found this 4-bedroom house not too far from where we are at the moment & although its a bit old, I was impressed coz a) kitchen is huge b) there's a big veranda facing the backyard & c) the backyard is huge, perfect for weekend barbecues. The interior was just renovated & since there are 3 bathrooms no one has to yell 'tama na ang ******, bilisan mo maligo'. Bwahaha! I hope we get this one. As posted in our group blog, yesterday was a yawner. Twas pouring like hell so plans of weekend roast got ditched. I decided to go to a friend's place to watch some DVDs & use her PC to chat & surf NBA.com. Then went to the club to have a few bets on the big Hongkong races. Went home around 7 & it was still raining heavily. Nobody's home which was perfect coz I felt like doin some chores. Did my laundry, prepared some spaghetti a-la Jollibee & watched the Sunday movie. All 3 networks were showing good flicks: 'X-Men', 'The Perfect Storm' & 'Billy Elliot'. Why do they have to show good movies at the same time? Most of the time, they all show crap movies but last night was an exception. Anyway, I settled for 'Billy Elliot'. Pakingshet, napaluha ako hehe. Good choice. Now I got inspired to do another top 10. Buset, watdapak is this obsession with top 10s? I diligently followed Casey Kasem's AT 40 & listed all the songs from #40 to #1 & I did this for 6 years without miss. Well, here's my top 10 British movies of all time: (note: British means the film was set somewhere in the UK & Ireland) 1. A Clockwork Orange 2. The Full Monty 3. Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels 4. The Commitments 5. Trainspotting 6. The Crying Game (whatever happened to Jaye Davidson?) 7. Nottinghill 8. Billy Elliot 9. Four Weddings & A Funeral 10. About A Boy posted by uging | 5:46 PM Saturday, April 26, 2003 First time to blog on a Saturday. Yup, we skipped Saturday karaoke. 2 straight long weekends certainly took its toll so everyone just decided to chill a bit & stay home. 'Big' (yeah Tom Hanks & one of his better flicks during the 80s) was on and that more than made up for an afternoon overdose of football on telly (all 4 codes: soccer, rugby league, union & AFL). Went online & surprise surprise, RngWra|th was there. Does this guy ever go out? Hehe at least he's a Ripps listener as well so I've got someone to annoy. I don't know how people can be so fucked up in the head. Edward, my favorite hairdresser got busted last Thursday. Yes, he's one of them TNTs. Apparently, a certain Alma dobbed him in coz of an old issue that everyone thought was already patched up. I was with Edward & a few Filos having a few beers at the club last Wednesday & everyone was really in high spirits that night. We're all cracking up with his faggot stories, from his high school days in Bulacan where he supposedly 'stole' the resident stud, to his sexcapades with Aussie 'donkey boys' hehe. Unfortunately, he's also into gambling. He owed money left right & centre which caused someone to snitch on him. Dunno bout you but for me you don't snitch on a fellow Pinoy just because of money. He probably spent a lifetime savings or even sold his properties, just to be able to go overseas & earn something for himself or his family. And now because of a few thousand dollar debts which surely won't be paid anymore, his future is now uncertain. posted by uging | 5:55 AM Wednesday, April 23, 2003 huwhattttttttt? Reese Witherspoon is now worth $25M per flick? What has she ever done? Sure, 'Legally Blonde' was a hit but did it earn that much to elevate that ugly fart on Hollywood's A-list? 'Sweet Home Alabama' wasn't even that good & the only reason I rented 'Cruel Intentions' was Sarah Michelle Gellar. Some people are really blessed. Sorry guys, sports talk ulit. AC Milan completed the Italian trifecta in the UEFA Champions League semis by defeating Ajax 2-1. And as expected, Real Madrid also went through even though they lost to Manchester Utd, 3-4 by virtue of a 6-5 aggregate (enuff of this). So it's goin to be a Milan derby in the semis with AC facing Inter while the other match will pit Real Madrid against Juventus. Yayabang na naman mga Italyano dito but that's OK. Inter would be without Christian Vieri though but Hernan Crespo's back. I hope its goin to be an all Azzuri finals but much as I hate Real Madrid, I wouldn't mind seeing them in the championship. AC Milan vs Real Madrid. Shevchenko vs Figo; Rivaldo vs Zidane; Inzaghi vs Raul; Tomasson vs Ronaldo. Can't get any better than that. posted by uging | 6:17 PM Tuesday, April 22, 2003 Orayt!! 2 Italian teams booked semifinal placings in the Champions League. And they beat 2 powerhouse teams from Spain which made things sweeter coz of this rivalry thing between Serie A & Liga fans. Juventus knocked off Barcelona 2-1 (3-2 on aggregate) while Inter ousted Valencia inspite losing the 2nd leg 1-2. Now this is what confuses me. Inter & Valencia, according to this website are locked up on a 2-2 aggregate that's why the away goal rule was applied. From what I know, aggregate means TOTAL points based on HOME & AWAY goals. A HOME goal is worth 1 point while an AWAY goal is worth 2. In the first leg, Inter won 1-0 (at Inter) so aggregate is 1-0. The second leg saw Valencia winning 2-1at home so the aggregate should've been 2-3 in favor of Inter (Inter already has 1 pt + the 2 pts they earned because they scored an AWAY goal). I'm still freakin out why the aggregate was 2-2. A third Italian team, AC Milan could make a trifecta if they can beat Ajax. Real Madrid could be the spoiler though as they are heavily favored to advance past the mighty (from an EPL fan perspective which is definitely not me) Red Devils. posted by uging | 8:37 PM Played trivia last night. 2 lang kami sa team coz the rest are still on holidays so we crapped out. There was one round though that we absolutely blitzed because there were like 5 movie questions & a couple of 80s music Qs. All teams were given a piece of paper where images of actors & movie scenes are printed. One of them was a picture of Harrison Ford with the White House seal at the background. Syempre, everyone expected the Q: 'which movie is this?' but the question turned out to be a cheekier one: 'name the guy who offered his parachute to Harrison Ford in this movie?' hahaha. I've always admired William H Macy since 'Fargo' so that was the clincher. $50 ching ching! Carl Lewis was recently booked for DUI. That sort of brought back the old news about his alleged doping at the trials before the 1988 Olympics. That was where Ben Johnson got stripped of his 100-m gold medal for turning out a positive result for doping. Even Linford Christie, the bronze medalist turned out to have taken roids as well. Malas lang ni Johnson coz it was during the Olympics that he got caught. American officials knew about Lewis` test results during the trials but turned a blind eye for obvious reasons. But when Johnson shattered the record, they went for his head coz their man got beaten. Howell, at least Pinoys are not the only ones to be accused of being cheats. posted by uging | 5:35 PM Monday, April 21, 2003 Easter break was a big yawn. Literally. It rained all weekend so the bed was my bestest mate. No cable at my place so I had to go to my cousin's to watch the NBA playoffs (Nowitzki abused the Blazers). Karaoke was happening as well last Good Friday & since we had nothin to do, we decided to go to the club but promised not to sing up-tempo songs. I was surprised to see quite a number of Pinoy oldies there coz I thought they're all supposed to be at home, minding their kids & watching 'Ben Hur' but I misjudged them. I got $20 since my name got picked in the competition so the karaoke Good Friday gig was fruitful. This is goin to be a short week again. No work on Friday, being ANZAC day (Aussie equivalent of National Heroes Day) so I'm gonna be bludging the whole week. This blog also needs some jazzin up coz it's as plain as Charlize Theron's acting :D posted by uging | 4:30 PM Wednesday, April 16, 2003 see y'all next week. have a safe Easter! posted by uging | 4:42 PM Tuesday, April 15, 2003 Most people must be on their holidays already (i know of at least 2 who are either getting burnt somewhere in Phuket or enjoying those sensual 'shiatsus' with a couple of geishas). Mine starts on Friday & instead of planning what to do, I'm thinking of what to eat that day. Is that pathetic or what? Nic actually invited us to come over at her place at Coffs Harbour & binge out but my other 2 mates are working & besides, I couldn't be bothered driving for 2 hours only to get pissed drunk & having to scurry back with a heavy hangover the next day for the big races at Randwick. Another thing, I've shunned alcohol ever since I found out that my ferritin level is spiking at 900 so even if everyone turns up, I'm just gonna be bored. Anyway, my beloved Mavs` greatest fears are nearly coming to its fruition. The Fakers are currently seeded 6th & most likely to stay there. Nick Van Exel boldly predicted the Fakers not to make it past the 1st round & now it's the Mavs who are facing that predicament. This is one time of the year that I'm cheering for L.A. If they win their next 2 & Minnesota & Portland lose their remaining games, Fakers move up to #4 & Dallas having an easier opponent. But as Raja Bell said, they don't really care who they meet coz in the end they will still have to get through tough matches to win the whole thing. So if its the Fakers, bring em on. posted by uging | 5:09 PM Monday, April 14, 2003 current foodtrip: boiled rice, stewed tofu with shutake mushrooms, sweet & sour fish, green tea current soundtrip: Owner of A Lonely Heart - Yes current mood: bored sporting shoutout: c'mon lakers. move up to #4 or #5 posted by uging | 7:51 PM Sunday, April 13, 2003 Golden Slipper results: 1st - Polar Success 2nd - How Funny 3rd - Hasna. None of my horses came out. Exceed & Excel was in front but fizzled out at the last 100m. Niello, the 2nd favorite was last turning at the straight & for a short distance race with such a big field, it's almost impossible for him to win. Dorky also came from behind but came up short. Not a good start to the blogging week with this entry but I finally managed to tell off this idiot (my flatmate's friend) to get lost. He came over at our place Friday night, brought along with him his PS2 & a large bag of dirty laundry so I thought what the fark? Anyway I didn't bother but the next morning, I was roused by that annoying Nelly song, he was already up & using the washing machine & dryer at the same time while playing his PS2. He also obviously helped himself with the fridge coz egg shells, coffee sachets & other rubbish are all over the place. I drove off to the shops & told him to clean up. When I got back around lunchtime, he was still playing, laundry still running, & mess still there so I just snapped & told him to leave. He even had the gall to tell me that he's just goin to stay 5 more minutes so he can save his friggin game. He left then SMSd after 10mins apologising. I didn't text back. He didn't show up yesterday so maybe I finally got rid of that thick-faced fart. I need a relaxing Easter break & the last thing I need is an annoying cretin playing shit R&B crap at my place. posted by uging | 4:47 PM Thursday, April 10, 2003 Tomorrow is Golden Slipper day, the premier racing event for 2-year old horses. This is the 2nd most popular event in the racing calendar aftre the Melbourne Cup so it's big deal for me being an avid horseracing nut hehehe. Here's the field with their corresponding odds (win & place). The shorter the odds, the more likely the horse will win (d'uh shempre noh hehe but just in case u don't know anything about gambling). Easter is the second most anticipated holiday here (after xmas of course). No school for 2 weeks, Royal Easter Show is on, trek to the beach. I miss the Pinoy version of Easter though. Family & friends gathered for the traditional pabasa, staying home while playing tongits/mahjong/pusoy, feasting on ginataang munggo & pritong espada or inihaw na tilapia, then looking forward to Easter Sunday where we can turn the music back on at full blast. Haven't planned anything yet for next week but I might just stay home since everyone else has work on Good Friday & Easter Monday. If you're getting paid double time & a half (if your regular pay is $22/hr, that's friggin $55 multiplied by 8hrs...$440 for 1 day) what would you rather do? Last year, I was at my friends place coz they have TFC. We were watching 'Palibhasa Lalake' re-runs& this little marquee thing suddenly popped up with the news '....matinee idol Rico Yan found dead at the Las Palmas resort'. I presumed I learned that news first coz there's no friggin TV programs on a Good Friday back in Pinas so I texted my sis. Next thing I knew, she was hyperventilating. Howell, that was a year ago and it seems like it only happened yesterday. Have a safe & blessed Easter break everyone. Stay away from SARS. posted by uging | 5:00 PM Wednesday, April 09, 2003 anyway. i was on a 2-day hiatus. it's not everyday that you get asked by your personnel manager to chuck a sickie. so those couple of days were spent watching telly & practicing songs at the karaoke machine. i learned 5 new recipes: mussel chowder gold coast style, chicken breast stuffed with ham & cheese (sort of a cordon bleu), white chocolate fudge, stuffed tofu thai-style & apple pastry using filo. but there's also one thing that i learned out of all these: you can just prolly whip up anything under the sun, give it an exotic sounding name & voila, a new Jamie Oliver is born. cooking shows are just plain bullcrap. that kathleen de leon from Hi-5 is such a babe & she's not really that good-looking. i don't know. i'm prolly 'aussified' coz i go for exotic beauties a-la Miriam Quiambao nowadays rather than the mestizahin Lucy Torres type of crap. posted by uging | 6:34 PM is war really over? that's the headline splattered all over the dailies as i went to the newsagent to buy my weekly ProBasketballToday. saddam's whereabouts is still unknown and loyalists are still holding out north & are still capable of using WOMDs. i didn't have much to say about this war coz no matter how we all protested about it, it was inevitable. the iraqis are finally freed of probably the worst dictator after stalin but the rebuilding is going to be massive. whatever this war really accomplished remains to be seen. as for that 'vital role' the UN is supposed to play, i can only shrug. posted by uging | 4:13 PM Sunday, April 06, 2003 Quite an eventful weekend, sporting wise. Sydney Kings, the worst sporting team in Australia finally rewarded their long-suffering fans with a basketball championship after sweeping the Perth Wildcats. Shane Heal (yes that guy who single-handendly embarassed the US Dream Team in Salt Lake City) got his first championship trophy. Australia also won their Davis Cup quarterfinals match against Sweden. They will meet Switzerland in the semis. Michael Schumacher again was not in the podium as Kimi Raikonnen won his 2nd F1 GP. To make things worse, both Ferrari drivers did not finish the race. In Serie A, the only soccer league I care about, Inter drew with Roma, jeopardizing their chances as Juventus move further in front. Filos stood out in the karaoke finals last Friday. Angelo & Mike came 3rd & 2nd respectively while that Jaya-look/sound-alike Indonesian gurl bagged the $1000 1st-prize. Not a bad result considering the winners are all Asians. I SMS-ed mytoes coz I didn't know which song to sing. She came up with a couple of songs which I've done before & completely stuffed up. I settled with the tried & tested 'Truly' which probably bored the judges but at least I didn't embarass myself. Howell, try again on Friday. posted by uging | 4:47 PM Thursday, April 03, 2003 Friday, 4th April, couple of things to look forward to: 1. Dallas Mavericks vs LA Lakers - I was able to watch their last game on TV (basketball is as popular here as cricket in Vladivostok) when I was having my holidays last December. That was a Saturday, Dallas was leading by 30+ in the 3rd quarter so I flicked the channel to Cinema 21 (Eddie Garcia was on). When I switched it back to ESPN, the freakin lead was trimmed down to 15 & thought watdapak happened. So I just followed the game and to my dismay, the Mavs suddenly forgot how to play basketball while everything these 'hacccccccccckk patoooie (pahiram fonz)' Fakers hurl seem to always find the net. Dallas lost by 2 points. Now, it's payback time. Should Dallas again lose this one, they might face the Fakers in the playoffs. 2. Karaoke Grandfinals - I'm not gonna win this but I'm still proud that out of 18 finalists, 5 are Filos and one of us, Angelo will surely win this thing, barring any choke of Dallas Mavericks proportion. He does a better version of 'On The Wings Of Love' than Jeffrey Osborne. Mike, that annoying but good-hearted friend of ours also has a good chance for 2nd or 3rd. He's terrible with ballads but his rendition of 'Lose Yourself' will make Eminem proud. posted by uging | 7:07 PM Wednesday, April 02, 2003 morbid mode muna tayo. sometime in your life you probably have been asked how you want to die. or maybe if you are going to kill yourself, how will you do it? the reason i'm blabbering on about this is because of leslie cheung's suicide and also, coincidentally an e-mail i received about bizarre deaths (u might have received this as well, or surfed on it). FBI's Top 12 Deaths of 2000 1- Alex Mijtus, 36 years old, is killed by his wife, armed with a 20 inch long vibrator. Mrs Mijtus had had enough of her husband's strange sex practices and one night during a prolonged session of fun she snapped, pushing all 20 inches of the vibrator into Alex's anus until it ruptured several internal organs and caused severe bleeding. 2- Debby Mills-Newbroughton, 99 years old, was killed as she crossed the road. She was to turn 100 the next day, but crossing the road with her daughter to go to her own birthday party her wheel chair was hit by the truck delivering her birthday cake. 3- Peter Stone, 42 years old, is murdered by his 8 year old daughter, who he had just sent to her room with no dinner. Young Samantha Stone felt that if she couldn't have dinner no one should, and she promptly inserted 72 rat poison tablets into her fathers coffee as he prepared dinner. The victim took one sip and promptly collapsed. Samantha Stone was given a suspended sentence as the judge felt she didn't realise what she was doing, until she tried to poison her mother using the same method one month later. 4- David Danil, 17 years old, was killed by his girl friend after he attempted to have his way with her. His unwelcome advance was met with a double-barreled shotgun Charla's (the girlfriends') father had given it to her an hour before the date started, just in case. 5- Javier Halos, 27 years old, was killed by his landlord for failing to pay his rent for 8 years. The landlord, Kirk Weston, clubbed the victim to death with a toilet seat after he realized just how long it had been since Mr Halos paid his rent. 6- Megan Fry, 44 years old, is killed by 14 state troopers after she wandered onto a live firing, fake town, simulation. Seeing all the troopers walking slowly down the street Megan Fry had jumped out in front of them and yelled Boo!. The troopers, thinking she was a pop up target, fired 67 shots between them, over 40 of them hitting the target. She just looked like a very real looking target, one of the troopers stated in his report. 7- Julia Smeeth, 20 years old, was killed by her brother Michael because she talked on the phone too long, Michael clubbed his sister to death with a cordless phone, then stabbed her several times with the broken arial. 8- Helena Simms, Wife to the famous American nuclear scientist Harold Simms was killed by her husband after she had an affair with the neighbor. Over a period of 3 months Harold substituted Helena's eye shadow with a Uranium composite that was highly radioactive, until she died of radiation poisoning. Although she suffered many symptoms, including total hair loss, skin welts, blindness, extreme nausea and even had an ear lobe drop off, the victim never attended a doctor's surgery or hospital for a check up. 9- Military Sergeant John Joe Winter killed his two timing wife by loading her car with Trintynitrate explosive (similar to C4). The Ford Taurus she was driving was filled with 750 kgs of explosive, forming a force twice as powerful as the Oklahoma Bombing. The explosion was heard by several persons some up to 14 kilometers away. No trace of the car or the victim were ever found, only a 55 meter deep crater, and 500m of missing road. 10- Patty Winter, 35 years old, was killed by her neighbor in the early hours of a Sunday morning. Her neighbor, Falt Hame, for years had a mounted F4 phantom jet engine in his rear yard. He would fire the jet engine, aimed at an empty block at the back of his property. Patty Winter would constantly complain to the local sheriff's officers about the noise and the potential risk of fire. Mr Hame was served with a notice to remove the engine immediately. Not liking this he invited Miss Winter over for a cup of coffee and a chat about the whole situation. What Winter didn't know was that he had changed the position of the engine, as she walked into the yard he activated it, hitting her with a blast of 5,000 degrees, killing her instantly, and forever burning her outline into the driveway. 11- Michael Lewis, angry at his gay boyfriend, used the movie, Die Hard With a Vengeance as inspiration. He drugged his boyfriend, Tony Berry, into an almost catatonic state, then dressed him only in a double sided white board that read Death to all N****rs! on one side, and God Loves the KKK. On the other. Lewis then drove the victim to downtown Harlem and dropped him off. Two minutes later Berry was deceased. 12- Conrad Middleton, 26 years old, was killed by his twin brother Brian after a disagreement over who should take the family home after their parents' passed away. Conrad had a nasal problem, and had no sense of smell. After the argument Brian stormed out of the house, then snuck back later, and turned on the 3 gas taps in the house, filling it with gas. He then left out a box of cigars, a lighter and a note saying, "Sorry for the spree, have a puff on me, Brian". Conrad promptly lit a cigar, destroying the house, and himself in the process. may they all rest in peace posted by uging | 5:54 PM Tuesday, April 01, 2003 well, that was fun. blog went berserk yesterday but finally i got my normal template back. apologies to miss usagi tsumiko for the mishap. trivia was on yesterday but we still came out empty handed. i'm glad though that they've changed the format. questions are more diverse & if you're lagging way behind, you can still catch up coz at the final round, there are questions worth multiple points. for example, you can get 8 points by naming all the 8 U.S states which has a population of over 10million (we got 6). there's also one question that got us back in the contest: 'name the 5 members of backstreet boys'. the perennial champs, Team Simple Minds (whose average age is probably 50) got 0 from that question harharhar. at least they lost out yesterday and if these will be the sort of questions that are goin to pop up, they might go & hustle someplace else. on a sad note, Chinese actor Leslie Cheung commited suicide. i know some of my fellow bloggers won't be too happy with this. he starred in a couple of cool chinese flicks, 'Farewell My Concubine' and 'Happy Together'. posted by uging | 4:50 PM |
